Dogs Eating Grass

When I am walking my Scottish Terrier she loves to chew on certain grass plants. I think it may be "oat grass". 1) Is it O.K. to let her eat this grass?

If you are sure it is oat grass, no problem. It might be best to correctly identify the grass by using a botanical identification book.

2) I have seen containers of so-called "cat grass". Is there any kind of grass or grain I could grow that would be suitable for my dog to eat? If I grow it myself I could ensure there is no chemical residue on it.

Most "Cat Grass" packages as found at reputable pet shops contain a combination of oat, barley and wheat grass. These will not harm your dog. However, the grass your dog will naturally eat outdoors is Couchgrass, sometimes called Dog Grass or Cat Grass; botanical latin is Agropyren repens. As you have already stated, it is important to ensure the grass eaten by your dog is pesticide and herbicide free.
