Imagine the shock I got when I opened up the box and saw such lovely, green, healthy plants! They were even blooming, and didn’t seem to have suffered whatsoever from their sojourn through the mail! I was astounded by the ease in which they adapted to being placed outside in the shade, and then into the garden! There were no signs of setback whatsoever! As a matter of fact, as soon as they got transplanted, they took off, and are lovelier than I could have ever possibly hoped for!"

Payment:

  • Cheque, money order, or credit card payment must accompany order. We accept Visa and MasterCard.

  • Growers and retailers may apply for credit after first order. Credit terms to approved accounts are net 30 days from the invoice date, and 2% interest per month on overdue balances. Please contact our customer service team here to request a credit application form.

  • International customers may pay by bank or wire transfer. Please contact our customer service team here for assistance with payment by bank or wire transfer.

Prices and currency:

  • Prices are subject to change without notice.

  • Canadian orders: All Canadian orders will be invoiced in Canadian dollars. If you choose to place your order in any other currency, you will be invoiced in Canadian dollars.

  • U.S. and international orders: All orders will be invoiced in U.S. dollars. If you choose to place your order in any other currency, you will be invoiced in U.S. dollars. Your credit card company will convert the U.S. dollar amount to your currency at the prevailing exchange rate. Prices displayed in currencies other than U.S. dollars are approximate; please check your credit card statement for the exact charge converted to your currency.

  • Credit cards will be charged in Canadian or U.S. dollars and converted to your currency (if not Canadian or U.S. dollars) at the prevailing exchange rate.

Taxes:

  • No taxes applicable on orders to destinations outside Canada. For orders to destinations within Canada, orders are subject to HST or GST.

Backorders:

  • All back ordered items will be charged at the time of order.

  • Perishable seeds, rootstock, bulbs, and plants may be back ordered and shipped when ready.

  • Out-of-stock items will be back ordered if expected within a few months.

Cancellations:

  • Orders must be cancelled in writing.

  • Because plug trays are planted to order there is no credit or refund if cancelled after 4 weeks. Plug tray orders will be fully credited or refunded if cancelled within 2 weeks of ordering; or 50% if cancelled within 4 weeks.

Returns:

  • Seeds, plants, bulbs, and rootstock: Live products such as seeds, plants, rootstock, bulbs, and mushroom kits cannot be returned due to the perishable nature of these products. 

  • Other non-perishable items: With prior authorization, all non-perishable goods may be returned for credit if unopened. A 20% re-stocking charge will apply. Please contact our customer service department here for return authorization and instructions. 

  • Damaged plants: Please note that claims for damage of plants on arrival must be made within 48 hours of arrival and must be substantiated by photos emailed to custserv@richters.com.

Shipping and handling charges:

  • Seeds packets only: $6 handling applies to all seed packet orders shipped to Canada or the United States; $12 handling applies to all seed packet orders to other countries.

  • Shipping on bulk seeds, rootstock, dried herbs, oils, gardening supplies, books, etc. is extra. See the shipping chart on page 94 of our catalogue for details.

  • Live plants: There is no handling charge for all orders to Canada and the United States. Shipping charges will apply to live plant orders depending on destination. See the shipping chart on page 94 of our catalogue for details.

Delivery:

  • Seeds and non-plant items: Small orders will be shipped by letter mail, if possible. Most orders will be shipped by expedited parcel post to Canadian and U.S. destinations or by surface small packet or by surface parcel post to international destinations. Delivery times range from 2-7 business days to Canada, 6-14 business days to the U.S., and 2-8 weeks to international destinations. IF YOU REQUIRE FASTER DELIVERY we recommend Xpresspost, UPS, FedEx, or air parcel post. Please contact our customer service department here for shipment options and rates.

  • Live plants: Plants, plug packs, and plug trays are shipped by Xpresspost in Canada, and by UPS in the U.S. Orders placed prior to April 15 will be shipped during the main spring shipping season, from April 15 to June 15. Due to potential frost hazard, we cannot ship until weather conditions in our area permit. THIS MAY MEAN THAT YOUR PLANTS WILL ARRIVE SEVERAL WEEKS AFTER THE OPTIMUM SPRING PLANTING PERIOD IN YOUR AREA. Orders placed after April 15 will be shipped as soon as possible. Some U.S. orders may be delayed a few weeks to consolidate orders for delivery to the UPS depot in Buffalo, NY.

  • All other items such as books, dried herbs, and gardening supplies are shipped by surface mail.

  • Rush orders can be shipped by faster means at cost if paid by credit card; mark "RUSH" in the order notes along with the details of your request.

  • Seasonal items: Bulbs, tubers, rootlets, and mushroom kits, should be ordered early. For example, "fall" items should be ordered by July, and "spring" items by March.

  • Perishable items: We cannot ship perishable items, such as plants, bulbs, etc. until our weather permits. This may not coincide with the season elsewhere: in parts of British Columbia or the United States, for example. Because of sheer volume in spring, some plant orders may not be shipped until early June. If you wish to specify an earlier shipping date on your order, we will try to accommodate you, but we cannot guarantee that date.

  • US plant shipments: Most plant and plug tray shipments to U.S. destinations will be shipped from Buffalo, NY. We take care of all customs fees and paperwork free of charge. All U.S. plant shipments are government-inspected and come with a phytosanitary certificate provided free of charge.

International plant shipments:

  • We do not ship plants outside Canada and the United States. The burden of complying with a myriad of plant quarantine regulations, plus the excessive cost of express shipping, no longer makes it sensible to ship live plants outside North America. Of course, we continue to ship most other products worldwide, including seeds, dried herbs, books, and more.

Pick-up orders:

  • We are not accepting pick-up orders at this time. Our retail greenhouse and store are open for personal shopping.

Commercial orders:

  • Growers:

    • All items are sold at net list prices only.

    • While we endeavour to supply only the highest quality bulk seeds, no warranty concerning the identity, germination, or productiveness of the seeds sold is expressed or implied. Any remedy, if applicable, shall be limited to the purchase price of goods or services supplied.

    • All handling, delivery, and service charges listed above apply.

  • Retailers:

    • All Richters seed packets are available to commercial retailers at a trade discount of 40%. Minimum seed packet order: 10 packets per variety, 100 packets total.

    • Potted plants are available to retailers at our standard "3 or more" and "12 or more" prices.

    • PotMaker (#T3900) is offered at a discount when purchased by the case or by the display pack.

    • All other items, including bulk seeds, plug packs, plug trays, books, dried herbs etc., are sold at net list prices only.

    • All above-described handling, shipping, and service charges do not apply; instead shipping and packing will be charged at cost. Specify the preferred shipping method.

    • Unsold items may not be returned for refund or credit.

  • Seeds, plants, bulbs, and rootstock: While we endeavor to supply only the highest quality seeds, plants, bulbs, and rootstock, no warranty concerning the identity and productiveness of seeds, plants, bulbs, and rootstock sold, or guarantee of delivery, is expressed or implied. Any liability is strictly limited to the purchase price, we do not assume responsibility for incidental loss.
