Seizures and Homeopathic Hyoscyamus

My five year old Rottweiller started having seizures more than a year ago. We are still in the process of controlling them. Currently, she's on 2.5 grains of Phenobarbitol and 500mg of Potassium Bromide twice a day. In addition to our regular vet, we are also seeing a homeopathic vet. We've tried a sulfer treatment that has definitely changed her seizures for the better but he still wants to get better control of the seizures (she can go a month seizure free then have 2-4 seizures within 2 days). The latest remedy is Hyoscyamus – small dose everyday for the next several weeks. What does Hyoscyamus target?

As your homeopathic veterinarian probably already explained, the choosing of a homeopathic remedy is based on the total picture of the animal in question. In this case, the symptom picture of Hyoscyamus would be as follows (Macleod, 1983 :83):
1. Excitement and mania
2. Severe head shaking and possibly unconsciousness
3. Pupils of eyes are dilated and fixed with spasmodic closing of the lids
4. Tongue is red and dry, protrudes with difficulty; foaming at the mouth; inability to swallow; vomiting with convulsions; possible diarrhoea.
5. Possible scanty urination
6. Twitching in all muscles
