Please, can you guide me how can I use herbs to treat mastitis in animals? You do not mention which animals in your care have mastitis, so I will only talk about choices in external treatment. Herbs such as Calendula flowers (Calendula officinalis), Comfrey leaves (Symphytum officinalis) and Plantain leaves (Plantago major) have traditionally been employed externally to heal cases of mastitis. Make a tea with any of these by adding 1-2 teaspoons dried herb to one cup boiling water. Let steep for 20 minutes and then cool to lukewarm. Strain. Dip a clean cotton cloth in the tea and apply to the area two to three times a day. If there is infective material present, use only Calendula.
