Dog and Allergies V

My is an Australian Sheep Dog and she seems to have a terrible skin itching problem. Is there an herb I can give her that will stop this infernal itching? My Vet says the only thing that will help is prednisone and that makes her gain weight and drink alot of water and that's bad because we're not home all day and she has to go outside...

I am unclear as to whether your dog is actually taking the steroid medication you mention.
