Puppies and Diet

Is there any herbal or at least a more inexpensive approach to dog food? Just curious. And is there anything for a 7 month old puppy peeing when getting excited? (This one is driving me crazy.)

Please bear in mind that the time, expense and effort you put into a puppy while it is young (or kitten for that matter) will translate into many years of good health, with fewer medical bills in the long run. So, in this light, perhaps an initial investment in your puppy's life is not such a bad proposition? I would heartily recommend that you read the works of Richard Pitcairn, "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats", "The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy and "The Barf Diet" by Ian Billinghurst for further information on this very important subject. Remember, we ALL are what we eat.
As far as the excitement-based urination goes, you may find that your puppy calms down once on homemade food (see books listed above) as commercial foods can have an affect on behaviour. In addition, you might want to look at the use of Bach flower remedies which can balance emotional states. In this case, Vervain, Chestnut Bud and Walnut might be appropriate. To use flower essences, put two drops of each essence on a 50 ml dropper bottle filled with spring water. Put one dropperful of the diluted essence in each of the dog's food twice a day. Take care to keep the dropper clean as the mixture is not preserved. Flower essences should be available at any good health food shop.
