I have been using six-flavor tea pills, lui wei di huang wan, to treat dogs with diabetes. Do you know of anything more effective for this condition?
I do not employ Chinese herbal medicine so cannot comment on the lui wei di huang wan. However, as a western-based medical herbalist, I would be looking at dietary change, supplements and herbs for general support (adaptogens), liver support (bitters), specific area support (cardiovascular tonics) as well as herbs with an affect on blood sugar levels: Vaccinium myrtillus (Bilberry), Trigonella foenum-graecum (Fenugreek) and Allium sativum (Garlic). Although I have not heard of Galega officinalis (Goat's Rue) in animal applications, it has proven itself quite effective for humans with NIDDM (age-onset diabetes) and may be worth further investigation.
