I have a dog that they think is hypoglycemic. She has a tremor weekly, and normally is cured with a granola bar. Is there an herbal remedy for this?Hypoglycaemia and blood sugar balance (much as in humans), can often be controlled by diet. Therefore, the first thing to do is put your dog on a good, homemade diet. Resources for recipes can be found in the following books: "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats" by Richard Pitcairn, "The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy and "The Barf Diet" by Ian Billinghurst. Please do not feed your dog granola bars as this is not a viable, long-term solution to balancing her blood sugar levels. Most often, hypoglycaemia is due to a lack of protein as most commercial foods are quite high in simple sugars/carbohydrates. Unfortunately, granola bars, whilst offering a short-term lessening of symptoms, will not help with the original problem: low nutritional status.
