Dogs and Preventative Care for Joints

I have a 9-month old Toy Poodle who is active and healthy, but I'm planning for the future given the breed is prone to patellar luxation. I'm wondering if there are any herbals I can give to avoid/alleviate the potential joint problem.

This is wonderful news that you are thinking ahead regarding your dog's future health! Although it's never too late to make adjustments, the best time to have the most positive impact is during the first year of a dog's life.
Strong joints and strong bones are directly due to a good diet and, in my experience, that comes from one that is homemade. Please look at books by Richard Pitcairn, "Natural Health for Dogs and Cats", "The Complete Herbal Handbook for the Dog and Cat" by Juliette de Bairacli Levy and "The Barf Diet" by Ian Billinghurst for further information on this topic. As well, you can start adding a crushed Vitamin C (buffered form) tablet to your dog's food: 125 mg twice a day. Once your dog is full grown, increase the dosage to 250 mg twice a day.
