Hi. Happy New Year. I just received your latest catalogue, and was looking for afican guava leaves. I saw in your catalogue that you have guava seeds for sale. Are you able to get the african guava seeds or plants? And is there really a significant difference in the african and your guava seeds?
Sorry for the very long delay in replying to your question. Your question arrived at a busy time when it was not possible to do the research needed to answer it.
We have not heard of "African guava" before. I did not find any reference to that name in our research library. I did find in Maurice M. Iwu's "Handbook of African Medicinal Plants" and Daniel Abbiw's "Useful Plants of Ghana" that the regular guava, Psidium guajava, is grown in Africa and is regarded as a medicinal plant. The leaves are important for the treatment of malaria and are frequently added to "fever" teas or are used in a steam bath treatment for malaria. A weak tea is of the leaves and tender branches is used for diarrhea and as a tonic in, as Iwu writes, "psychiatry." He goes on to write that pharmacological studies have shown that the leaves have a sedative action.
