How large are the scented geraniums? I need eleven hanging pots to go on my porch. Do scented geraniums (never heard of them before!) make nice hanging baskets? Do any of them have English ivy-type leaves?
There are several varieties of scented geraniums that make lovely hanging basket subjects. The trailing varieties available from Richters are Apple, Coconut, Nutmeg, Old Spice, Peppermint, Staghorn Oak, Variegated Nutmeg and the Austrian geraniums(non-fragrant). Many of the compact growing scented geraniums look and often smell nice in the middle of a hanging basket with other trailing plants aroung the edges. Good examples are Brilliant, cinnamon, Filbert, Mrs. Kingsley, Mrs. Taylor, Prince of Orange, Strawberry, Swarlberg, Variegated Mint Rose.
The leaves of scented geraniums vary greatly in shape, but almost all of them are velvety while English Ivy has shiny leaves. The shape of the leaves of some varieties approach that of the maple leaf shape of English ivy but none are very similar. Lemon Frensham, Mable Grey and Peppermint have somewhat maple leaf shaped leaves.
