I want to plant and grow Russian sage, heather and lavender (several varieties of each if possible) I live near Whitehorse Yukon Territory. Are there varieties that you can recommend? Information such as, varieties, soil preparation, wintering etc will be greatly appreciated.

Your climatic zone is far too cold for any of these plants to survive the winter out of doors. However this does not stop you from growing them in containers and moving the containers into a garage heated to be around the freezing mark, keeping the plants over the winter barely moist and moving them back out of doors when danger of frost is past. I think with your long days in the summer they will reward your winter protection with good growth and I hope- flowering. If this is not an option, you could also get new plants each year and treat them as annuals. They all like a well-draining, moist soil, but can take a bit of a drought in the summer. The larger your pot - if that is your chosen method, the better the plants will grow. If you use the soil-less perennial mixes such as Pro-Mix, they should do well for you.
