Growing Tomatillos

I have two large plants loaded with flowers. Some of the flowers have produced the paper like husks. However, I do not see any fruit in the husks. They appear to be hollow. Do the husks form first and the fruit catch up? Am I missing some nutrients to produce the actual fruit?

Tomatillos need a long season to produce mature fruit. The husks do form first and protect the developing fruit. In my area in zone 4 I find that I have to start the seeds indoors in March to get mature fruit out of doors from them later. Unripe fruit taste terrible, so don't rush the harvesting! If frost threatens before the fruit are ripe, you may want spade them out of the ground and into a large pot and put the pot into your sunniest window.
