This spring is the first time I'm going to plant garlic. It has to be chilled before planting: how long and at what temperature should it be chilled at?The usual practice is to plant garlic in the fall. When this is done the bulbs naturally go through a cool period over the fall and winter months. When garlic is planted in the spring it is necessary to provide a cool treatment otherwise the plants may fail to form bulbs. Storing the bulbs in the fridge for 1-2 months before planting is usually sufficient. Garlic needs temperatures between 0 and 10 degrees Celsius (32-50 degrees Fahrenheit), so a fridge works just fine for this operation.
