I am interested in having a herb garden this spring and wanted to know which herbs grow best in Tennessee (Zone 6) I would like to have herbs for cooking and also fragrance. I have well-drained soil but I worry more about the heat and humidity during the summer months. It is terribly hot and humid.
I think most culinary herbs will just love your climate. Check our catalogue and see that you choose only plants whose zone range includes zone 6. The zone range is to the right of the latin name of the plant. Since a majority of culinary and fragrance herbs come from a Mediterranean climate your climate fits their needs perfectly. You even have the well-drained soil that most of them need. All you may have to do is water during prolonged droughts. During the first year mulch perennials to give the roots a chance to get long enough to keep up with the water requirements of the plants.
