Sea Buckthorn in California

I live in Long Beach, California (zone 9-10 depending on microclimate), and planted a dozen sea buckthorn seedlings just to see if they would grow here. Well, they're growing great (10 survived), but now I am wondering, will they thrive without a chill to induce dormancy? I don't really expect them to fruit (perhaps in the occasional cold year?) Any idea if they will surprise me? They are planted as a hedge by the street, where they will get pleny of reflected heat during the summer and prevailing winds (usually from the south/west, i.e. the ocean) during the winter.

Since you live on the coast, your summers should not get too hot for this plant. I think it will surprise you and do just fine. You may be right that only in winters that get a bit of frost will the plant set flower buds, because it is rated only up to zone 8.
