I have St. Johnswort, elecampane, valerian, echinacea in 4 inch (10cm) pots. Will they tolerate being planted just before the long rainy winter in Sonoma County (north of San Francisco, CA, USA)?In your mild climate winter planting will not be a problem, because the issue of frost heaving is not really important. Plant them on a little hill, so that they don't rot from all the rain. Watch them carefully and if you see rot setting in put a pot with a drainage hole, upside down over the affected plant to keep out most of the rain.
