Once I receive the edelweiss seeds, how do I plant them and when?
As it will tell you on the back of the seed package, you surface plant the seed with a light sprinkling of soil as a cover anytime using sterile soil, but spring is the best time because it gives the plants all summer to grow strong before the onset of winter. The seeds will germinate in 4 to 6 weeks. They seem to prefer a clay based loam and don't like to dry out completely. It might be a good idea to over-winter the pots or seedling flat in a cold frame for the first winter, to reduce winter kill. The plant is at home in deep winter snow areas and might snuff it with the freezing and thawing experienced in such places as the great lakes area of North America.
