I have purcahsed some aspargus plants that are in the fern stage with the seeds pods already on. What would be the best place and method to plant them?
Find a sunny spot and augment the soil in it so that it is rich but well-draining to at least a depth of 50 centimeters or about two feet. Make a 20 centimeter trench and dig a hole the size of the pot in the trench and plant the plant in it. Water well and mulch. After the plant has died down in fall you can fill in the trench to create greater depth for next year's growth. Again mulch for the winter and next year to keep down weeds, especially since asparagus is late to emerge in the spring.
You could try to plant the seeds from your capsules (you have a female plant) since you won't get any further seeds unless you get a male plant as well.
