Curry Leaf Plant Care

The curry leaf plants I received from you this spring need transplanting. I wish to know the soil, light, humidity and watering requirements. They are growing indoors now in a west facing window and look healthy; I am zone 7.5-8 so plan to keep them indoors in winter and perhaps outdoors in summer.

They need a well-draining medium rich soil, full sun, are not fussy about humidity and need a moist but not soggy wet soil. Summering them out of doors will be good for them. Just get them used to indoors conditions slowly when you bring them back in.
While indoors watch for spider mites as curry leaf is very susceptible to them. If you do not know what spider mites or their damage look like we have a book, Organic Pest & Disease Control, which has an excellent illustrated section on identifying pests.
Also, curry leaf plants do tend to become deciduous in cooler temperatures. We notice that in winter when our greenhouses can get cool overnight, down to 10 degrees Celsius (40 degrees Fahrenheit), curry leaf plants will sometimes drop leaves. If this happens take care not to overwater during this dormant period. When temperatures rise and days become longer new leaves will appear.
