I am doing a propagation project on the sassafras tree. I would like to purchase some seeds from you, however, I am not sure how long the seeds will take to germinate. Will the seeds being cold-stored help in reducing the time it takes to germinate? I wanted to plant these seeds as soon as possible.
Sassafras needs to be stratified (stored cold and moist) at 5 degrees Celsius for 120 days.
To retain viability the seed has to be stored dry at 1.5 to 5 degrees Celsius until stratification is convenient. After stratification the seed takes about 120 days to germinate if kept at room temperature.
