What is the best way to propagate mint?

Mint is very easy to propagate. Stem or rhizome cuttings rooted in water or in soil -under plastic covers will root quickly and easily. These methods will get you a copy of the parent plant with no change in flavour or growth habit.
Most mint varieties have to propagated from cuttings because they are infertile and do not produce seeds, or the seeds they produce do not come true from seeds. Most mint seeds on the market produce plants with an unpleasant scent and flavour. There are, however, some mints that do come true from seeds; these include apple mint (Mentha suaveolens) and water mint (Mentha aquatica). Apple mint seeds are hard to come by and Richters does not always have any available.
