Sage Over the Winter

I am not sure what to do with my sage. I live in Pennsylvania, USA, so the winters are hard on my herbs. I am a first time herb gardener, should I cut the sage back or just let it go?

Since Pennsylvania runs through zones 5 to 6 you should not have too much trouble getting sage through the winter. All the garden sages are rated for zones 5 to 8 and should get through your winter just fine with the help of a straw mulch. The mulch will moderate the temperature fluctuations by catching and holding more snow and slowing down the wind close to the plants. Therefore it would be best if you did not trim the plants until spring. The taller plants will hold more straw and therefore more snow.
