Lovage in Florida

We are in Zone 8 - Coastal Northwest Florida. Lovage doesn't seem to do well here regardless of whether we try indoors or out. What are the ideal growing conditions for this plant?

Our reference Book "Hortus Third" lists your area as being in zone 9. This means that lovage will have a hard time outside during the summer. It is supposed to be hardy in zones 5 to 8. It likes sun to half shade, and a rich, deep, moist soil of pH 5.5 to 7.8.
To grow it outdoors you would have to keep it in the shade, mulch it heavily and make sure the soil is kept moist. It is quite intolerant of drought. A mister nozzle directed in its direction during really hot parts of days might help.
For indoor culture in your climate, the light levels might be limiting factors. Put it in the sunniest window in a large pot. Wintering it outdoors might work.
