I purchased two night jessamine plants and two jasmine plants from Richters in early Spring. All of the plants are growing into large vines. How soon can I expect them to bloom? Is there anything that I can do to push them towards blooming? I also wanted to know how I should go about training the jasmine plants to grow in the tomato cage that you mentioned in your Q & A section.
Using a high phosphate (high middle number) fertilizer will help. Also give your plants as much light as you can, including summering them outdoors.
To train jasmine plants to grow in a tomato cage or any other confined space, tie the plant to the support and when the tip reaches the top, gently bend it down and tie it in that position. Retie any new tips so that the plant extremities stay in the enclosure but fill it in a pleasing manner. You have to do it frequently, because once the vines get older, they become brittle and difficult to bend.
