Can you tell me if milkvetch (or Astragalus) will grow perennially in southern Minnesota? Also what type of conditions does it like? Sun, type of soil, etc.Chinese Milkvetch is hardy in zones five to eight. Since southern Minnesota is in zone four you will have to find a very sheltered spot, such as in an inside corner created by the house, to make it survive outdoors. A winter mulch will be a must for most winters. The plant requires full sun and prefers a well-drained, sandy, slightly alkaline soil.
