Herbs Used in Old & New Testament Days

We are getting ready to conduct a Bible school, and our theme is "the market place" during Jesus' time. Will you please tell me what herbs were used way back then, and what they were used for? One of the shops in the market place is an herb shop.

In his book, "Herbs of the Bible" (available from Richters), James Duke mentions 58 plants mentioned in the Bible. For each plant he gives the quotation from the Bible that mentions each of the 58 plants, the plant's history, and its folkloric and modern uses. I recommend that you get a copy of this excellent book. Dr Jim Duke is one of the giants of modern herbal knowledge – a very reliable source of information.
