How can I stop this sweating; are there herbs to cure this?
Spontaneous sweating is a sign that the body is experiencing stress, of some form, in a very acute way, to the point that it is recognizing that there is a potential crisis. Most often this is due to blood sugar fluctuations which may be large fluctuations or they may be minor; either way it does not matter. The fact of the matter is that the body is finding it stressful.
Women, especially when heading into menopause, experience hot flashes and sweating because their reproductive hormones are changing and the body is finding it stressful to the point that the blood sugar hormones are becoming sensitive as well. Whenever the blood sugar hormones fluctuate, the body goes on alert. If it fluctuates too much it recognized that it may be a life threatening situation and the stress response, sweating, occurs.
To treat this one needs to regulate blood sugar levels. The problems is that one may go to their doctor for a blood sugar test and the test results come back fine. That is good but the blood tests are not able to pick up the small and subtle changes that occur constantly throughout the day. It is these small changes that are key.
Bitter herbs such as gentian, dandelion or valerian can be taken to help regulate the blood sugar via a bitter taste reflex. Lemon water can also be helpful. Specific herbs that regulate blood sugar are cinnamon, garlic and blueberry fruit or leaf. Herbs that help to calm which reduces a stress response such as chamomile, lemon balm, skullcap or lavender can also be used as a tea.
