What herbal treatment can I use to get rid of a stye in the eye?

A stye is a bacterial infection of an eyelash follicle. A hot black tea teabag is the simplest remedy and can be applied for several minutes. This can be repeated using a fresh teabag several times per day. The tannins in the tea will kill the bacteria. Chamomile teabags can be used in the same manner. It is important to not spread the bacteria to the other eye by allowing the drippings from the teabag run over to the other eye or by touching the infected eye then touching the unaffected eye. Washing hands frequently is recommended.
