What is good and safe to use on cradle cap?
Midwife and herbalist Aviva Romm, in her book "Naturally Healthy Babies and Children", describes cradle cap as a non harmful condition of an oily secretion that can be kept to a minimum by regular hair washing, once or twice a week, with a mild shampoo. Aviva also lists the following as helpful:
"Rub scalp with sesame, olive or other vegetable oil. Shampoo it off a few hours later."
Wash the scalp with diluted Castile soap, which dries up the secretion
"Place a handful of dry rolled oats in a small sock or cloth sack. Dampen the sack or sock and rub it well over the scalp while the oats become milky lathery. This process will soften the cradle cap, which can then be removed with a fine-toothed comb."
