Garlic Oil for Baby's Ear Infection?

I was wondering if it is okay to put garlic and oil in my baby's ears when when he has an ear infection? I don't trust the medication they give out for this.

A garlic capsule may be broken and a drop of oil dropped into each ear or you can make ear drops by soaking a well cleaned, crushed garlic clove in extra-virgin olive oil, straining very thoroughly and carefully using fine cheesecloth or a clean dishtowel. Store in a glass container with a tightly fitting lid in the refrigerator for no more than 3 days.
The ear should then be kept dry and covered with cotton wool.
