Recently my mother was feeling sick and out of energy. When she went to the doctor, they were suprised to see she had very high blood pressure, she had a week of work and now she is fine but is still worried, she asked me to find out what herbs are good for keeping the pressure down. Hawthorn berries, motherwort, rosemary, kelp and cayenne? Are these okay for her?The herbs that are good for an individual person depend on many factors unique to the individual. Hawthorn berries are used in most heart conditions to strengthen the heart muscle and increase blood flow through the heart. Motherwort is used in high blood pressure to nourish and calm the heart and nerves. It would be particularly indicated if your mother is stressed, excitable or nervous. Rosemary is a stimulant, used to strengthen the heart. It would be particularly indicated if your mother is slow moving and not getting much exercise, needing a bit of stimulation. Kelp nourishes the thyroid gland. It would be helpful in high blood pressure if the person had a low thyroid condition, but harmful if the thyroid is overactive. Cayenne stimulates the whole body. It may be used short term if the body needs stimulation, but could overstimulate if used long term.
