I've heard virgin coconut oil is good for you, especially for weight loss. I've also read you can use it to treat acne. My daughter is 13 and we have been putting it on her face every day. She has had bio- meridian testing done and is on Livatone. After 4 weeks her numbers have improved greatly and her face is somewhat better. I'm also wondering if she could take something for her colon as constipation has been a problem since she was a baby. Any other suggestions for treating the acne (the dermatologist's products were too harsh)?
Yes virgin coconut oil is good for you, providing that it is not refined, bleached, deodorized or pressed using heat. This should be stated on the label.
Coconut oil can help with weight loss by boosting the metabolism. Coconut oil cannot do it alone. Excess carbohydrates in the diet cause the body to store fat. Try increasing the amount of fruit and vegetables in the diet, and decreasing the amount of grains by reducing or eliminating bread, crackers, cereal, pastas and anything containing sugar. Use only whole grains like brown rice and oats.
Coconut oil, taken internally and applied externally, nourishes the skin with healthy oils. Its antimicrobial actions can help with acne, but dietary factors are important here as well. A skin nourishing diet is high in fresh fruit and vegetables, low on carbohydrates and eliminates fried foods, caffeine, alcohol, sugar, refined flour products and junk foods. Six to eight glasses of water or herbal teas helps to cleanse the body. Sweets, chocolate and excess carbohydrates contribute to hormonal imbalance that is the main factor in teen acne.
The hormone-balancing herb Chasteberry (Vitex agnus-castus) can help with acne. A skin nourishing tea, containing chamomile, calendula, nettles and rose hips, taken regularly, can help with acne.
Psyllium seeds, freshly ground flax seeds and a diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables are the safest form of help for constipation. They add bulk to the stool, stimulating a bowel movement. When using psyllium or flax seeds, you must drink a full cup of water after taking them and ensure that you drink 8 cups of water a day, or the seeds will dry out the digestive system, causing bowel obstruction. Start with one tablespoon of seeds in the morning, increasing to three times a day if necessary. Occasionally, people are allergic to psyllium seeds. Don't use psyllium if your daughter has asthma and watch for a negative reaction if she suffers from allergies.
