I am a high school student planning to do an investigative research on the using Jasminum sambac (Indian jasmine) root as an alternative tranquilizer/anti-depressant/sleeping pill. I was wondering whther there is scientific evidence that would support our research and whether this is feasible.
We have not heard of this usage of Jasminum sambac. When we need a quick summary of the latest research on plants, we check Medline's PubMed database at www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi . A search for "Jasminum sambac" turned up six articles and only one is on the plant's medicinal properties – and that report is about its effect on lactation.
Are the effects you asking about from the aromatherapy literature? It is our impression that aromatherapy research is not well covered in PubMed and you will have to look elsewhere.
