I am a high school student planning to do an investigative research on the using Jasminum sambac (Indian jasmine) root as an alternative tranquilizer/anti-depressant/sleeping pill. I was wondering whther there is scientific evidence that would support our research and whether this is feasible. We have not heard of this usage of Jasminum sambac. When we need a quick summary of the latest research on plants, we check Medline's PubMed database at www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi . A search for "Jasminum sambac" turned up six articles and only one is on the plant's medicinal properties – and that report is about its effect on lactation.
