I was told that taking flax seed oil and ginkgo was dangerous as both are blood thinners. Is this true?
I have not heard or seen that flax seed thins the blood. Ginkgo contains ingredients that inhibit blood clotting, so there is a risk of the blood not coagulating if taken with blood thinners like aspirin or if taken in excess doses for prolonged periods. The dangers in these cases are wounds that will not heal, as the blood does not clot.
There have been cases of bleeding in the eye with standardized ginkgo extract, which is a modified form of the herb. The herb ginkgo, taken as a tea or tincture, is not known to cause this problem.
