What is Saw Palmetto, and how should it be taken? The berries of the Saw Palmetto (Serenoa serrulata or S. repens) plant are used as medicine, mainly for hormonal problems, but also for urinary tract infection. Half a teaspoon of the dried berries are crushed, then simmered in one cup of water for 15 minutes. Take half to one cup, three times daily. This herb can also be taken as a tincture or a capsule. Preparations vary in strength, so you should use the dosage indicated on the package.
