Could you please tell me where catnip grows? Is it just out in the woods, along the creek banks, open field or etc. I live in Southeastern part of Ohio.
Catnip is a short-lived perennial found in disturbed or waste areas. Because it is European it does not compete well with our native plants in undisturbed areas. But once the native plants are disturbed in some way – by any natural or human activity that results in the soil becoming exposed – and you may well find catnip. It grows in full sun or partial shade.
Catnip is found in Canada from New Brunswick to Ontario, and in the United States, from the northeast to South Dakota, Utah, Oregon, Kansas, to South Carolina.
