Could you please let me know all medicinal uses for nutmeg?Thomas Bartram, in "Bartram's Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine" (available at Richters) lists the actions of nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) as prostaglandin inhibitor (prostaglandins are hormone-like messengers that can cause inflammation and pain and many other negative as well as positive actions), anti-diarrhoeal, anti- inflammatory, antispasmodic, sedative, diaphoretic, brain stimulant, carminative (anti- flatulent) and digestive stimulant. Bartram states that it is used for diarrhoea, dysentery, vomiting, colic, nervous stomach and to promote acid content of gastric juice.
Many years ago we took 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground nutmeg three times a day to clean the blood to get rid of boils abcesses and carbuncles. This worked when nothing the doctors could do worked.
