Six weeks ago I got the Herpes Zoster virus, commonly known as shingles.? It broke out as a rash at the top of my spinal cord at the base of my head. This affected the nerve cord to the right ear and I also fell victim to Bell's Palsy as a result. The right side of my head is paralyzed. My right face, eye, mouth, tongue. I am 50 years old. I am trying everything I know to do, and that is very little. The doctors mis-diagnosed me from the very first day. It wasn't until the third day that a doctor finally knew what the problem was and medicated me with acylovir and prednisone. I am off of these now and am doing what I can to try and return my face back to normal. I am drinking Noni tea every morning and massaging the muscles of my head and face. Is there anything that you can recommend that I do? I will also tell you that I have high blood pressure and I am easily stressed. Part of the problem to begin with.
Bell's palsy often results from a herpes virus infection. St. John's wort, both internally as a tincture (5 ml, three times daily), and externally as an oil, is often very effective. St; John's wort is anti-viral, and a nerve restorative, particularly effective with the facial nerves. Because it also has sedative properties, it may help you with stress.
Other herbs that have been effective and can be added to the St. John's wort tincture are lemon balm (Melissa officinalis, 3 ml, three times daily) and prickly ash (Zanthoxyllum clavaherculis, 2 ml three times daily). Lemon balm is anti-viral, and anti-stress, and prickly ash improves blood circulation to the head. To take the tinctures, measure the dose and add a bit of hot water. Allow the tinctures to cool to room temperature before taking. This will dissipate most of the alcohol,
Ask at your health food store for well manufactured tinctures.
Acupuncture is often helpful. Try to get a recommendation for a well trained, experienced therapist.
