A friend has given me a bottle of capsules which are Dong Quai and Royal Jelly together. I have been able to find information regarding Dong Quai but what can you tell me about the benefits of Royal Jelly? I am 58 years old, had a hysterectomy several years ago, and already take soy with black cohosh supplements to help control menopausal symptoms. Will there be any contraindications by adding the dong quai/royal jelly to my regimen? Thank you for the info.Thomas Bartram, in "Bartram's Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine" (available at Richters) states that Royal Jelly is a secretion from the salivary glands of the worker bee, used as a concentrated food to impart extraordinary powers to the queen bee. It is rich in vitamins and amino acids. Its actions include: antibiotic, endocrine gland stimulant, immune enhancer and digestive. It is used as an energy source, to stimulate appetite, to increase the metabolic process, as defence against infection, to improve the ability to handle stress, for healthy skin and nails, to improve blood counts, to restore diminished sexual function and to increase weight.
