Is tea as harmful to the heart as coffee is?
Coffee is worse for the heart than black tea, because there is more caffeine in a cup of coffee than in a cup of tea. Caffeine contributes to increased cholesterol and high blood pressure. Recent studies show that drinking both black and green teas may decrease the risk of heart disease by decreasing LDL (the bad) cholesterol, and discouraging blood clotting. Green tea appears to be the better choice for decreasing cholesterol.
