What herbs would you recomend for a person with Huntington's chorea?
Thomas Bartram, in ?Bartram's Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine? (available at Richters) states that there is no cure for Huntington?s chorea, a hereditary degenerative disease of the brain?s cortex and basal ganglia. He notes that anti-convulsants may reduce contortions and restlessness and recommends Betony, Black Cohosh, German Chamomile, Oats, Passionflower, Sarsaparilla, Skullcap, Valerian and Feverfew. Note that it is necessary to consult with a qualified natural practitioner and the medical doctor in order to determine which herbs can be safely taken with current medication.
Bartram also recommends a lacto-vegetarian diet, yogurt, low-salt, oatmeal porridge, Muesli, regular raw food days and the supplements B-complex, B6, Kelp, Calcium, Magnesium and zinc. These are nourishing to the brain and nervous system.
