Is horse chestnut safe to take while nursing? I have a real problem with spider veins. Will I notice a difference after taking this herb for a while?Horse chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum) is astringent and anti-inflammatory, used mainly for toning the veins in cases of hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Spider veins are a form of varicose veins. Horsechestnut is very effective when applied topically, especially in a cream also containing Witch Hazel. I suggest that you use the topical form while nursing. The herbs are directly absorbed by the veins beneath the skin to tone these blood vessels. It usually does work. I suggest you try it, along with the other strategies listed below, for 2 weeks to see if you notice a difference. Creams are available in Health Food stores and pharmacies.
