Someone told me that several drops of Star of Bethlehem into lotion applied by massage onto sore muscles or other injuries can relieve pain and discomfort. Is this true?Star of Bethlehem (Ornithogalum umbellatum) is a member of the onion family. Maude Grieve, in "A Modern Herbal" (Penguin Books Ltd., 1980) describes its ancient use as a food. Thomas Bartram, in "Bartram's Encyclopedia of Herbal Medicine" (available at Richters) lists it as useful in peptic ulcers, and as an unproven cancer remedy. I don't know of its use for muscle pain. I might use a St. John's wort oil, Cayenne oil or a homeopathic preparation of Arnica cream for sore muscles.
Also, is there a natural and safe fat burning herb? I exercise daily and want to continue losing weight slowly and sensibly. I do cardio and weightlifting.
