Where can I find out if Bergamot has any laxative properties?
As far as we know bergamot does not have laxative properties. According to the "CRC Ethnobotany Desk Reference" by Timothy Johnson (CRC Press, Boac Raton, Fla., 1999) various species of bergamot have been used "gastrointestinal disturbances", for flatulence and as a digestive. Like many aromatic herbs, it is an aid to digestion, helping to stimulate the flow of gastric juices needed to digest food. It is commonly used as a beverage tea like other aromatic herbs such as mint which have the same effects on digestion.
