I was wondering what, if any, the side affects are of saw palmetto. I have slightly elevated blood pressure, am presently taking 25mg of saw palmetto every day, with no problems as of yet. I have only been taking it for about a week now. My prostate is fine, and would like to keep it that way. Thanks for your time.
Saw Palmetto has been shown in studies to relieve the symptoms of early prostate enlargement: frequency of urination, urination at night, delayed onset of urination and weak urinary stream. There are no known contraindications to taking Saw Palmetto. "The Complete German Commission E Monographs (publisher American Botanical Council), the official German guide to physicians' use of herbal remedies, states that in rare cases, Saw Palmetto has caused stomach problems.
The recommended dosage is 1/2 teaspoon crushed berries made into a tea, or 100 mg extract in the form of a tablet or capsule, three times a day.
