I didn't think that this was the same as the pot mum, since it is supposedly only grown in one area of China.

There are, as I am sure you know, many, many variations of Chrysanthemum morifolium. Besides the ornamental cultivars, there are several medicinal forms important in China. One is "chu ju" and another is "hang ju" which are produced in Anhui and Zhejiang provinces. You definitely cannot assume that *all* Chrysanthemum morifolium forms are medicinally equivalent.
