As a young child, my mother would make a "flaxseed tea" when my sisters and I would have a cold. Do you have a receipt for this?
Flaxseed contains soothing mucilage to protect the bronchial tubes in infection and coughs. It is high in essential fatty acids and minerals that provide nutrition for healing. It is an expectorant, helping to eliminate phlegm, and a laxative, supporting bowel elimination of toxins and useful in constipation. It is also used to break down cholesterol, reducing the risk of heart disease.
A tea can be made by steeping 2-3 teaspoons of the seeds in a cup of boiling water for 15 minutes. The seeds should not be filtered out. It can be sweetened with honey.
