What is horse chestnut and what can it do?
Horse chestnut is a common tree native to southeastern Europe and found cultivated in Canada and the United States. It grows to 15 to 25 metres high.
The leaves, bark and fruit are used. It is an astringent herb that is used to treat varicose veins, leg ulcers, hemorrhoids, neuralgia, and sunburn. It is also used for diarrhea. For more information consult John Lust's book, "The Herb Book" (available from Richters).
