Traumed and Arnica

After surgery my friend's heart specialist recommended Arnica Montana and Traumed for faster healing. What exactly do these herbs do and what is their source? Would they ever be unsafe if taken with other medications?

Arnica Montana and Traumed are homeopathic remedies. Arnica is a plant sometimes known as Leopard's Bane or Wolf's Bane. Its main use is to heal bruising and relieve pain, especially after surgery. Traumed is advertised as an anti-inflammatory pain killer without side effects. I don't know the constituents of Traumed. You could inquire at a health food store or the remedy manufacturer.
Homeopathic remedies are greatly diluted, and work by stimulating the body's own healing processes, whereas in herbal and orthodox medicine, the chemical components of the remedies act to initiate healing. Because of the way homeopathic remedies work, there are usually no side effects and would not interact with orthodox medications, assuming that the combination of remedies and the dosages are properly prescribed
Arnica Montana as a herbal remedy, rather than a homeopathic preparation, is usually restricted to external use. In large doses it is toxic.
